Source of Funds Requirements for UAE Corporate Banking
By Alena Makhnovskaya, Co-Founder · Head of Advisory, OmniTrust AE · Reviewed by Sergey Stepanov, Lead Co-Founder · Published 21 September 2026 · Updated 21 September 2026
UAE banks require evidence showing where the money used to fund and run a company genuinely comes from — this is a standard part of anti-money-laundering (AML) compliance, not something specific to any one bank. Acceptable evidence typically includes documentation of prior salary or business income, proceeds from a sale of assets, investment returns, or an existing business's trading history.
Updated: 21 September 2026Why Banks Ask
Under UAE anti-money-laundering regulation enforced by the Central Bank, banks must understand where a customer's funds originate before opening or continuing to operate an account. This protects both the bank and the account holder from being unknowingly linked to illicit funds.
Acceptable Evidence Types
- Salary certificates or employment contracts, for funds originating from personal income
- Sale agreements or transfer documents, for funds from the sale of property or other assets
- Prior business financial statements, invoices or contracts, for funds from existing business activity
- Investment account statements, for funds from dividends or investment returns
- Inheritance or gift documentation, where relevant
Special Considerations for New Companies
A newly formed company has no trading history of its own, so banks typically look instead at the shareholders' personal source of funds — how they earned or acquired the capital being injected into the business.
Common Mistakes
- Providing bank statements without any explanation of where the incoming funds originated
- Mixing personal and business funds without a clear paper trail
- Submitting documents in a different name than the account applicant without explanation

Source of Funds FAQ
Multiple sources are common — each one simply needs its own supporting documentation.
Cash savings can be harder to evidence without supporting documentation (such as prior salary records); we advise on the best way to present this during a consultation.
No adviser can guarantee a bank's final approval. OmniTrust AE can help organise and present source-of-funds evidence clearly, but the final decision is made independently by the bank.
